As leader of Skyline Group of Companies’ Legal team, Laurie is responsible for all legal work required for Skyline Group of Companies, including legal aspects of all asset transactions, development projects, joint venture projects, and clean energy projects. She also provides valuable assistance on contracts, reports, and other legal documents, as well as privacy issues/processes and legal claims/disputes.
Laurie joined Skyline in 2015 with nearly 20 years of experience across various facets of real estate law. She began her career as an Associate with McKenzie Lake Lawyers LLP, where her primary area of practice was commercial real estate with a focus on acquisitions, dispositions, and financings. Previous to Skyline, Laurie held multiple roles at Walmart Canada Corp across its Legal and Business units. While there, she played an integral role in the integration of Massmart, an Africa-based retailer, into the Walmart group of companies, and she led the real estate legal team in the negotiation of 39 former Zellers leases from Target.
Laurie is a problem-solver who believes in taking a collaborative approach to delivering legal services. She strives to create a highly motivating culture for her team and actively encourages their professional growth and development.
Laurie is a current Board Member for Volunteer Waterloo Region and serves as lead of its Governance Committee. She is also a Coach and Advisor for the Coach and Advisor Network for Lawyers and Paralegals (Law Society of Ontario) as well as a Peer Mentor for Counselwell, a community and mentorship program for in-house lawyers.
Laurie holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Western Ontario. She was called to the Bar in the Province of Ontario in 1996. She completed Harvard Business School’s Program for Leadership Development in 2013.
