Rexall is celebrating the official opening of its first-ever pharmacy powered by solar panels at its Arthur Street location in Elmira, Ontario. “At Rexall, we pride ourselves day in and day out on caring for our patients through quality, personalized pharmacy services,” said Nicolas Caprio, President, Rexall. “Through our partnership with Skyline Retail REIT, we are proud to step up in a small way and care for our communities as well.” Rexall plans on generating up to 50% of its electricity via clean, local green energy at this location. Installing the new solar panels will prevent the equivalent of 2,634 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, which is the equivalent of taking over 520 cars off the road for an entire year. “We are thrilled to celebrate the opening of Rexall’s first solar-powered pharmacy here in Elmira,” said Gordon Driedger, President, Skyline Retail REIT. “This new store is a true demonstration of the long-standing relationship between Rexall and the REIT. We are pleased to be part of this forward-thinking eco-leadership initiative.” To further showcase the commitment and environmental stewardship Rexall is taking, permanent door decals will be displayed at the main entrance to welcome guests and highlight the environmental benefits of solar energy. Additional Green Measures Rexall offers a battery recycling service, Call2Recycle, to organizations, communities, and companies across Canada. Patients who have unused or leftover medication can visit their local Rexall and have it safely disposed of in an environmentally friendly way, free of charge. In 2020, Rexall announced it would ban single-use plastic bags in its pharmacies, and instead offered reusable or paper bags as an alternative. In Fall 2022, Rexall will be phasing out paper bags as well. Rexall RightDose offers clients an option to sort their medication by date and time, in an eco-friendly package with improved portability. Rexall has partnered with Bullfrog Power to replace the power we consume at our office with green renewable energy.
